GLAZING BARS
Leeds City College had a particular problem with a 40 year old patent glazing system with single glazing. It had been constructed using steel bars which were not thermally efficient. The system lost a lot of heat and accumulated condensation daily as a result of no ventilation. There was also asbestos in the design.
We attended the site and supplied an all new aluminium thermally enhanced patent glazing system using our self supported HG2/3 profiles. We arranged for the main contractor to remove the asbestos as we could not carry this out at the time. However, we now have certification to provide this service. We installed the new double glazing using energy enhanced glass on the inner pane which included a thermal coating. The glass was provided by Pilkington, a well known manufacturer using their K Range Thermes 1. This increased the overall heat efficiency of the room. To help with the air circulation problem, we also installed thirty electrically operated opening lights that were additionally linked to the building management system.
